DENVER — The Colorado Rockies confirmed today that Adam Ottavino will be taking over the closer role from Carlos Estevez.

The 23-year-old Estevez has blown his last two saves and given up a combined total of seven runs.

Ottavino has been simply spectacular since returning from Tommy John surgery. In fact, he has been spectacular since well before then, boasting a 23-inning streak in which he has not given up a run. This means that since the beginning of the 2015 season, Ottavino has an ERA of 0.00.

It literally doesn’t get any better than that.

Estevez has already thrown 40 innings for the Rockies this season despite it being his first look at MLB-level competition. He has had his ups and downs but ultimately shown a ton of promise for such a young kid. Clearly, he has more development to do and should be given a shot as a set-up man alongside Boone Logan.
